Windows 10 Super Lite Compact Iso

Microsoft is working on another iteration of Windows 10, but this time the plan is a little more complex than what you’d expect when hearing about a Windows-based project.

Windows 10 Pro Version 1909 (19H2) Build 18363.449 SuperLite Compact (Gaming Edition) x64/x86 – October 2019. Download Windows 10 Disc Image (ISO File) Before updating, please refer to the Windows release information status for known issues to confirm your device is not impacted.

Windows Lite, as it’s currently called, is technically a new version of Microsoft’s operating system that is supposed to push the concept of a Microsoft Store-restricted operating system one step further.

Microsoft has already tested this idea with Windows RT and Windows 10 S, but neither did a great job to help the company tackle the growing world of Chromebooks. As a result, Microsoft is building a new ChromeOS rival that will be based entirely on its modern Windows Core OS experience, and coming with a few extras over its predecessors.

A ChromeOS competitor

First of all, the main benefit of Windows Lite is suggested right by its name. This operating system will be truly lightweight because Microsoft needs software that can power devices competing against Chromebooks.

This means that because it would be restricted to the Microsoft Store, no Win32 programs would be allowed, so Microsoft plans to remove all the parts responsible for these unnecessary tasks completely. In other words, unlike Windows 10 in S Mode, Windows Lite won’t allow users to upgrade the OS and get support for Win32 programs.

Then, Windows Lite may not even be called Windows, as per Petri. The software giant may be trying a different approach that would make sense given the limited functionality, and choosing another name could actually help fight the confusion of having multiple Windows versions with different features.

Windows Lite would only be offered pre-installed on new devices that Microsoft is likely to be working on together with partners. A new low-cost Surface pioneering this operating system could be launched as well, alongside other alternative models from the likes of Dell, HP, Lenovo, and others.

More information on Windows Lite will probably be shared at Build 2019, as for the time being, the project is far from being finalized. However, the first products running it could see daylight late next year.

    Installation in Parallels VM:

    • Select image file
      • Select Operating System - 'Windows 10' (if not recognised)
      • Option: for Software Testing
    • Install should then all be fully automatic for Windows 10 within a few minutes (OS compression can take a while and the VM will appear to be unresposive for possibly a few minutes)
      • restarts automatically

    After Installation in Parallels VM:

    • optional: install Sysinternals Process Explorer & add shortcut (for better Memory usage measurement)
      • Memory usage about 300 MB, after a few minutes idle using Process Explorer
    • Install Parallels Tools
      • if auto-start is disabled, manually start setup from CD drive with autorun.exe
      • Unattended installation of Parallels Tools http://kb.parallels.com/en/11616: PTAgent.exe /install_silent
    • optional: add GPedit.msc & WinDirStat shortcuts
    • make Firefox default (if installed)
    • Check Device Manager

    Limitations:

    • Cannot be updated properly with Windows Update, due to cumulative updates breaking the system (see Host Refresh Wizard for alternatives https://www.ntlite.com/v1-2-stable-released/ )
    • Network discovery has to be manually enabled
    • Event Viewer Errors: various such as
      • Print Service
      • Task Scheduler
      • Driver install failed
    • Strange layout in Settings - Privacy - Location

I tested it with various applications, and so far everything works fine including larger ones such as Corel Draw.
  • Thanks chriswayg!
Linked on the support page, I'm sure many will find it helpful, as your previous guide was.
Be sure to let me know if I can help in any way.

    You're welcome nuhi!

Final on-disk install Sizes with Presets:

    • Windows 10 LTSB 1607 (32bit) NTliteTiny2 - 1.2 GB (no swap)
      • The created iso image is less than 700 MB (with esd). This is my smallest image which works without problems, by leaving out Updates, Printing, OneDrive and a few other things. With more testing, this could be reduced further.
    • Windows 10 LTSB 1607 (32bit) NTlite9 with integrated updates - 2.3 GB (plus 500MB swap)
    • Windows 10 Enterprise 1703 (32bit) original FULL install - 9 GB (no compression), 7.5 GB (with compression)
    • Windows 10 Enterprise 1703 (32bit) NTlite1.0 with integrated updates - 2 GB (plus 500MB swap)
      • This is my favorite general purpose VM, using the settings described in the tutorial
If you want to use one of these example presets, please adapt them to your needs: at a minimum check your VM/PC hardware and change the Password in Unattended!

  • oo, I get a mention, sweet, . Reply is one my preset questions page(so i dont hijack this topic ).
  • chriswayg, will your presets be updated from time to time?
  • edited August 2017
@Emma - Actually I will probably not update the presets very often, as I like to keep a stable VM as long as possible. My current one works well, and I might look at updating the Enterprise 1703 preset after one or two years.
The LTSB version stays current for 3 years, thus I will probably update the LTSB 1607 version preset sometime after the next release.
'The next release will be in 2019 according to Microsoft, and it won't be called LTSB anymore but LTSC. LTSC stands for Long-Term Servicing Channel, and it is the new term for that special branch for Enterprise customers.'
